Italian in the City is a course for high intermediate or advanced students who wish to improve their Italian language skills and learn about contemporary Italian culture and society while exploring the neighborhoods of Roma off the beaten tracks. Each unit is introduced through scenes of movies, historic documentaries, or passages from literary texts as well as songs, offering students a wide variety of authentic sources to develop their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. The introduction is followed by a detailed visit to each neighborhood with different tasks, including structured observations, interviews locals, guided research and cultural “scavenger hunts” to discover the best of each neighborhood.

Third semester college-level Italian language course (at Temple Italian 2001) with a minimum grade of C-, or equivalent, or permission of instructor.
