A selected topic from a specific period in the history of art will be examined. The Special Topics course examines the major Women Artists in Italy and Northern Europe between the 16th and 17th centuries by providing an overview of the specific socio-cultural and figurative context in the Early Modern period. The figures are presented in their distinct biographical and artistic paths, giving space to the respective genres in which they specialized. Particular attention is given to role women played within the art world, especially in the art market in the Dutch Golden Age.  The subject is approached from a comparative perspective and students will be provided with an examination of the literature on the subject and the methods used for investigation and the current state of studies. 

Repeatability: This course may be repeated for additional credit.
