Dr. McCormick is a fellow in the Academy of Leisure Sciences and the National Academy of Recreational Therapists. His work focuses on the social functioning and community participation of adults with severe mental illness, and he has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer reviewed publications, as well as multiple books and book chapters. He is currently professor at Temple University in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and an investigator with the Temple University Collaborative for Community Inclusion. He is a past president of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Dr. McCormick has worked in southeastern Europe for more than 15 years in Kosovo (2002), Serbia (2010) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (2017-18). He is a two-time recipient of Fulbright scholarships to study issues affecting community mental health services and service users in southeastern Europe. His work has appeared in journals such as: Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, American Journal of Recreation Therapy, Annual in Therapeutic Recreation, International Journal of Social Psychiatry, Journal of Leisure Research, Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, Journal of Rehabilitation, Leisure Sciences,Schizophrenia Research and World Leisure Journal.
