Cheri Carter joined the School of Social Work faculty in 2004, teaching practice and HBSE courses across the curriculum. She also teaches in the university’s general education program; having developed the human behavior course, Human Behavior and The Photographic Image. Beginning in 2009, Dr. Carter’s primary focus became the BSW Program, and in 2010 she became the BSW Program Director. Throughout her SSW tenure she has served on a variety of committees within the school, college, and university. Her interests include curriculum development, as well as the exploration of non-traditional teaching methods. In an effort to better serve students, Dr. Carter participates in intensive workshops. In 2016 Dr. Carter received an IPE Teaching Certificate (Inter-professional Practice & Education) taught by Temple University Faculty instructors from Pharmacy and Nursing. They trained inter-professional faculty and clinicians to precept, facilitate, and assess IPE activities. Training included three Modules: Principles of IPE, Theoretical Approaches and Principles of Assessment, and Small Group Facilitation & Precepting in Clinical Practice Settings. In 2017 she traveled to Brixton, London to attend a three-day training workshop where she received a comprehensive introduction to understanding, designing, managing and facilitating a participatory photography project. This past summer she spent 10-days in Jamaica with the Jamaica Study Abroad Program visiting sites and participating in various activities with students and faculty. Dr. Carter regularly attends national social work conferences. In 2015 she co-facilitated a workshop entitled, The Topic-Focused, Case Study Approach: Developing a New Framework for HBSE Content, and in 2018 she attended the Baccalaureate Program Directors Conference where she facilitated a workshop entitled, Utilizing Participatory Photography and Digital Storytelling to Enhance Social Work Content and Engage Social Work Students. Dr. Carter enjoys exploring new places, locally and abroad. This past summer she and her son spent time in Costa Rica and Miami Beach. Some of the places to which she has traveled are Egypt, Canada, the Bahamas, Mexico, Colorado, Atlanta, Barcelona, and Paris.
