Teaching Interests

Since 1990 Associate Professor Leonard Horton has been on the faculty of Temple University, where he has taught a variety of music-related courses, both classical and vernacular. In Music Studies he has taught classes ranging from general courses in Western "classical" and "world" music to more specific genre courses in jazz, pop and American musical theater. As part of the American Studies curriculum he has offered classes in American music, the relationship between politics and popular music in America, and an inter-disciplinary course titled "The Arts in America". With an educational background in music composition, his primary teaching and research interests are in American popular and classical music of the 20th century, and he is also active as editor and preparer of musical manuscripts of new music, by American composers, for performance and publication.
