Steve Newman

Steve Newman is an associate professor of English, specializing in British Literature of the Long Eighteenth Century (c. 1660-1832) and Scottish Literature.  He is the author of Ballad Collection, Lyric, and the Canon (University of Pennsylvania Press) and many articles on Scottish literature, William Blake, William Shakespeare, and other topics; he is the editor of The Gentle Shepherd (forthcoming from Edinburgh University Press), the first volume in The Collected Works of Allan Ramsay and is currently at work on a mongraph about the value of the humanities from the Scottish Enlightement to the present and a digital humanities site on The Beggar's Opera. At Temple since 2001, he has won multiple teaching awards and founded and led a Summer Study Abroad program in London in 2013, 2015, and 2017.  Having studied abroad himself in Ireland and England, he wants to do whatever he can to make that possible for Temple students.
