Alistair Q. Howard leads Education Abroad and Overseas Campuses, the unit that administers Temple-sponsored outbound study abroad programs, acts as a liaison between Main Campus and Rome and Tokyo campuses, and advises students on study abroad program and scholarship opportunities. He is committed to increasing the diversity of study abroad opportunities for all Temple students and to the success of our university’s overseas campuses and programs. Dr. Howard also facilitates global education opportunities for staff and faculty.
From 2015 to 2018 he served as associate dean and chief academic officer at Temple University, Japan Campus. Prior to that, he was associate professor of instruction in political science in the College of Liberal Arts at Temple, where he will continue to teach political science courses. His doctorate in comparative politics and public policy is from George Washington University (2005), and he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Hertford College, Oxford (1988).
At Temple Japan, Dr. Howard oversaw the academics of a diverse, international student body including graduate students and more than 1200 matriculated undergraduate students from around the world, and study abroad students from Temple and across the U.S. During his Temple Japan tenure, he worked closely with Education Abroad and Overseas Campuses, as well as other units, schools and colleges to strengthen ties between Main Campus and Temple Japan. He gained the respect and trust of faculty and students, improved resources and built a strong foundation for further growth and connection.
