Denise’s interest in the world was nurtured by an older brother who travelled the world, and Nancy Drew, the fictional heroine whose mystery solving adventures took her to far flung places. A fan of the Beatles, Denise’s dream was to travel to England in search of Paul McCartney. That dream came true in college, when she was one of three students who spent their junior year abroad. At the University of Lancaster in England she studied British literature, and British and Russian history. And while she didn’t meet Paul McCartney, it was that transformative year abroad that propelled her into a lifelong career making study abroad a reality for thousands of students, first at Arcadia University (formerly Beaver College), and then at the Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University, and for the last 25 years, at Temple. Denise has also been active in the study abroad profession, serving in a number of leadership roles at NAFSA: Association of International Educators, including vice-president, board member, and president.
