Faculty-Led Summer Programs

Temple University’s faculty-led summer study abroad offerings serve a variety of needs — whether you are looking to take courses in your major or minor, enhance your general studies, or acquire language skills, we hope that one of our programs will allow you to achieve your academic goals.

Some unique examples of summer faculty-led programming include Temple Summer in Sicily – Art Conservation using Biotechnology which offers an opportunity to investigate the crossroads between biology and art conservation, using Sicily as an incredible experiential laboratory, Temple Summer in Ghana – African Urban Hip-Hop that focuses on how African urban hip-hop functions as a decolonial framework and on sociopolitical movements against cultural and economic imperialism in the global African diaspora, and Temple Summer in Costa Rica – Sustainability and Renewable Energies that explores Costa Rica’s diverse landscape and fascinating culture while learning about sustainability and climate change.

Scholarships

Non-Temple students studying on a Temple-administered program are eligible to apply for need-based scholarships specifically for non-Temple students. Learn more about non-Temple Student Scholarships.

You can also review our Scholarships Database and search by your program and eligibility.

You should also check with your home institution for study abroad scholarships they may have. Many university and college study abroad offices have a list on their own website outlining eligibility requirements and amounts awarded.

Financial Aid

Most home institutions allow all financial aid (federal, state, and institutional) to be applied to your participation on a semester study abroad program. Please speak with your home school study abroad office and financial aid office to confirm their policies.

View our Financial Aid for Non-Temple students section for details.

Pre-departure Information and Program Support

Temple Education Abroad will provide you with support throughout your program preparations. On our main campus in Philadelphia, PA, we have a dedicated Program Management (PM) team who will be your primary source of advising once you have opened your study abroad application with us. The PM team will assist you with questions about the pre-departure process, your specific program and location, and more.

Once you are accepted into your program, we give you access to a Canvas site with lots of information about how to prepare for your term(s) abroad. Education Abroad will also host a pre-departure orientation and other sessions prior to going abroad, along with an on-site orientation upon arrival.

How to Apply

View our How to Apply page for general instructions for all students and see below for important notes for non-Temple applicants.

  • Meet with your home institution study abroad office before applying to a Temple program as your own school will likely have an internal application or other requirements you need to complete in order to participate. Remember that your home institution’s internal deadline for those requirements will likely be different from Temple’s application deadline.

  • Meet with your academic advisor to review your degree and graduation requirements and to discuss your plans to study abroad. With careful planning, a period of study abroad should fit into your program and not delay progress towards your degree. Review course offerings for your chosen program on our website.

  • Once you have been accepted to a program, you will be issued a Temple University ID that will provide you with access to information related to your study abroad application.
