For Non-Temple Study Abroad Advisors

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in Temple University study abroad options for your students. Temple offers a variety of opportunities for students from all majors and interests to integrate a global perspective into their academic career. Students from our partner universities and colleges across the U.S. have studied abroad on Temple University programs in Rome, Kyoto, Tokyo, Oviedo, and faculty-led summer programs worldwide.

We aim to provide access to quality study abroad opportunities that encourage student development, engage with the local community, and adhere to the highest health, safety and security standards. Our staff members on the Philadelphia main campus Education Abroad team, along with our overseas campuses staff, look forward to working with you and your students to help them achieve a rewarding and successful experience abroad.

We would also like to introduce you to our Institutional Relations (IR) team! The IR team manages relationships with other colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada, in order to recruit non-Temple students to study abroad at the Temple semester programs in Rome, Italy; Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan; and Oviedo, Spain; as well as at Temple’s summer programs worldwide.

Sarah Short Hutyra, Assistant Director for Institutional Relations, has worked in IR for over a decade and joined the Temple team in early 2019. She loves developing close relationships with the many schools who entrust us with their students, understanding their unique needs and collaborating to best serve their populations. Andrew Sandefur, Institutional Relations Manager, has worked in the study abroad field for nearly a decade and joined the Temple team in 2025. As a Temple alum, he is excited to share the wonderful study abroad opportunities that Temple has to offer for non-Temple students. Read Andrew’s full bio or email him at andrew.sandefur@temple.edu.

Campus-Based Programs

Faculty-Led Summer Programs

Temple University’s faculty-led summer study abroad offerings serve a variety of needs — whether you are looking to take courses in your major or minor, enhance your general studies, or acquire language skills, we hope that one of our programs will allow you to achieve your academic goals.

Some unique examples of summer faculty-led programming include Temple Summer in Sicily – Art Conservation using Biotechnology which offers an opportunity to investigate the crossroads between biology and art conservation, using Sicily as an incredible experiential laboratory, Temple Summer in Ghana – African Urban Hip-Hop that focuses on how African urban hip-hop functions as a decolonial framework and on sociopolitical movements against cultural and economic imperialism in the global African diaspora, and Temple Summer in Costa Rica – Sustainability and Renewable Energies that explores Costa Rica’s diverse landscape and fascinating culture while learning about sustainability and climate change.

Scholarships

Non-Temple students studying on a Temple-administered program are eligible to apply for need-based scholarships specifically for non-Temple students. Learn more about non-Temple Student Scholarships.

You can also review our Scholarships Database and search by your program and eligibility.

You should also check with your home institution for study abroad scholarships they may have. Many university and college study abroad offices have a list on their own website outlining eligibility requirements and amounts awarded.

Financial Aid

Most home institutions allow all financial aid (federal, state, and institutional) to be applied to your participation on a semester study abroad program. Please speak with your home school study abroad office and financial aid office to confirm their policies.

View our Financial Aid for Non-Temple students section for details.

Application and Forms

Students apply online, and their application includes a home college approval form, which they will provide to you for signature and then upload themselves.

Pre-departure Information and Program Support

Temple Education Abroad will provide your students with support throughout their program preparations. On our main campus in Philadelphia, PA, we have a dedicated Program Management (PM) team who will be their primary source of advising once they have opened a study abroad application with us. The PM team will assist them with questions about the pre-departure process, their specific program and location, and more.

Once your students are accepted into their program, we give them access to a Canvas site with lots of information about how to prepare for their term(s) abroad. Education Abroad will also host a pre-departure orientation and other sessions prior to going abroad, along with an on-site orientation upon arrival.
