Sciences Po Lyon, which was founded in 1948, is a public school that is attached to Université Lumière Lyon 2. At the international level, Sciences Po Lyon has increasingly been promoting mobility for its students thanks to partnerships with over 157 universities in some 50 countries. The IEP is also a member of the network of the 9 regional IEPs outside of Paris; it has special links with the Paris Institute of Political Studies and the Political Science Foundation. Several research centers are directly attached to Sciences Po Lyon, making it a center of academic excellence. A very active student body with multiple events promoting campus life guarantees the institute an ever-growing reputation at both national and international levels.

    Location

    Sciences Po Lyon, located in Lyon, France, is situated across a diverse set of districts with a mixture of 19th century architecture and contemporary glass and concrete; you can also find small popular neighborhoods (Montchat) and large, busy thoroughfares (Jean-Jaurès, Berthelot). The population is mixed with a variety of urban functions (two universities and Sciences Po Lyon, government buildings, residential, old and new industries). There is a great abundance of apartments for rent, both modern and older, in this area. Most of the student residences are located here. The area is served by two metro lines, two tramway lines and buses. It includes the main train station of Lyon, Part-Dieu.

    Housing

    Sciences Po Lyon does not offer on-campus housing, so students must find their housing independently.

    Information about housing can be found on Sciences Po's Lodging Page. Exchange students will have access to the housing platform available to only Sciences Po Lyon students; the platform provides a comprehensive list of student accommodations, such as apartments, homestays and student dormitories. Students may also elect to look at alternate housing platforms to arrange housing for the semester.

    Program Costs

    Program Deposit

    Students will pay a non-refundable program deposit of $400 within 2 weeks of nomination to the program. This non-refundable deposit is credited to your program fees as a prepayment. 

    Temple Tuition and Standard University Fees

    Students pay Temple tuition and fees directly to Temple. Visit Temple’s Bursar for per-credit tuition rates. All students pay University Services Fee.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Temple programs are open to qualified students matriculated at any U.S. or Canadian college or university.

    You are eligible to apply if you meet the following requirements.

    Are enrolled fulltime and will have completed 2 semesters before studying abroad
    • You are enrolled as a full-time matriculated student at the time of application as well as during the semester prior to studying abroad.
    • You will have completed at least two (2) semesters of college-level study by the program start.
    Are in good academic standing and meet minimum GPA requirement for the program

    You meet minimum cumulative GPA requirement, on a 4.0 scale from all colleges/universities attended. The requirement varies by program:

    • Temple Semester Programs: 2.75 (Internships: 3.0)
    • Temple Summer Programs: 2.5
    • Exchange Programs: 2.75
    • External Programs: 2.5

    You remain in good academic standing from the time of application until the start of your term abroad; students on academic warning are not eligible to participate.

    Have a valid passport

    You will need a passport, valid well beyond the length of your program, by the application deadline.

    Are in good disciplinary standing

    You are in good disciplinary standing at the time of application and remain so through the start of your term abroad. Students who have been found responsible for a code of conduct violation and will not be in good disciplinary standing (including disciplinary probation) may submit a petition for review.

    Meet the minimum age requirement

    You are at least 18 years old at the time of application.

    For Sciences Po Lyon, the following additional considerations apply.

    • Students will be selected mainly based on academic fit and demonstrated interest in the host university and/or location. 

    Non-U.S. citizens: you are welcome to study abroad if you meet the eligibility requirements; however, you are not permitted to study abroad on an exchange program in your home country. Please speak to Education Abroad if you have questions about your eligibility.

    The standard application requirements pertain to all students applying to Temple programs.

      Additional Requirements for Sciences Po Lyon

      • All students applying for an exchange program are required to meet with a program manager before submitting their application. 

      Additional submission for students taking courses in French

      • Foreign language evaluation, completed by a faculty member in the appropriate language department. You can send the evaluation form electronically to your evaluator from the online application or download a paper form from your application that you can submit directly to Education Abroad.

      Admissions Timeline

      • Admissions is not rolling.
      • Temple nominates students for Exchange Programs after the deadline for the specific term.
      • Once you submit your application, you should expect a decision by the decision deadline, about one month after the program application deadline has passed.

      If you can learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, you will always be prepared to handle whatever situation may arise in your own life.
