Lancaster University is a public research university located in the City of Lancaster, Lancashire, England, and is one of only six collegiate universities in the United Kingdom. Ranking in the top 10 universities in the UK, Lancaster offers high-quality academics, cutting-edge research and networking opportunities, and a unique collegiate residential system. Exchange students have the opportunity to take sciences and technology, business management, and arts and social sciences courses. Exchange participants are required to take a full-time course load (at least 12 Temple credits) while abroad and will earn transfer credit.

    Location

    The Lancaster University campus occupies a beautiful 560-acre parkland site at Bailrigg, just three miles from Lancaster City Centre. Brimming with culture, the Bailrigg campus has its own theatre, art gallery and concert series. Students at Lancaster enjoy a vast, green campus with views of the mountains and sea. The campus is 10 minutes from the main West Coast railway with direct services to Manchester, London and Scotland. In 2018, the Lancaster University campus was voted third in the Top 20 University Campus Awards in a public vote.

    Facilities

    The campus has comprehensive facilities, including a library, bookstore, computer labs, banks and shops, post office, dozens of places to eat and drink, a multifaith center, Health Services, movie theater, art gallery, ice cream parlour, hair dresser, and more

    Program participants are required to be present for the entire length of the program, from the official arrival date through the program end date.

    Housing

    Students may choose to live in on-campus housing or find independent housing.

    On-Campus Housing

    Exchange students are guaranteed on-campus accommodations as long as their applications are received by the deadline. Students have the option of choosing from Standard rooms, En Suite rooms, or a Townhouse.

    Students may elect to find independent housing in sharehouses or apartments. 

    Faculty & On-site Support

    As an Exchange Program participant, you will have access to the support provided by your host institution.

     

    Program Costs

    Program Deposit

    Students will pay a non-refundable program deposit of $400 within 2 weeks of nomination to the program. This non-refundable deposit is credited to your program fees as a prepayment. 

    Temple Tuition and Standard University Fees

    Students pay Temple tuition and fees directly to Temple. Visit Temple’s Bursar for per-credit tuition rates. All students pay University Services Fee.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Temple programs are open to qualified students matriculated at any U.S. or Canadian college or university.

    You are eligible to apply if you meet the following requirements.

    Are enrolled fulltime and will have completed 2 semesters before studying abroad
    • You are enrolled as a full-time matriculated student at the time of application as well as during the semester prior to studying abroad.
    • You will have completed at least two (2) semesters of college-level study by the program start.
    Are in good academic standing and meet minimum GPA requirement for the program

    You meet minimum cumulative GPA requirement, on a 4.0 scale from all colleges/universities attended. The requirement varies by program:

    • Temple Semester Programs: 2.75 (Internships: 3.0)
    • Temple Summer Programs: 2.5
    • Exchange Programs: 2.75
    • External Programs: 2.5

    You remain in good academic standing from the time of application until the start of your term abroad; students on academic warning are not eligible to participate.

    Have a valid passport

    You will need a passport, valid well beyond the length of your program, by the application deadline.

    Are in good disciplinary standing

    You are in good disciplinary standing at the time of application and remain so through the start of your term abroad. Students who have been found responsible for a code of conduct violation and will not be in good disciplinary standing (including disciplinary probation) may submit a petition for review.

    Meet the minimum age requirement

    You are at least 18 years old at the time of application.

    For the University of Lancaster, the following additional considerations apply. 

    • Students will be selected mainly based on academic fit and demonstrated interest in the host university and/or location. 

    Non-U.S. citizens: you are welcome to study abroad if you meet the eligibility requirements; however, you are not permitted to study abroad on an exchange program in your home country. Please speak to Education Abroad if you have questions about your eligibility.

      • All students applying for an exchange program are required to meet with a program manager before submitting their application. 

      Admissions Timeline

      • Admissions is not rolling.
      • Temple nominates students for Exchange Programs after the deadline for the specific term.
      • Once you submit your application, you should expect a decision by the decision deadline, about one month after the program application deadline has passed.
