What is the Gilman Scholarship?

The Gilman International Scholarship is a U.S. Department of State program that supports students with high financial need to study abroad. It is a competitive award for U.S. citizens and permanent citizens who receive a Federal Pell grant as part of their financial aid package. Temple students have been successful in receiving awards up to $5,000 to study abroad for a semester or summer. An additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Award is available for students studying high-demand languages in non-traditional locations. Applicants who are conducting STEM-related research as part of their study abroad or international internship program can apply for a STEM supplemental award of up to $1,000.

Child and spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel who receive any type of Title IV federal financial aid during the time of application should apply for the Gilman-McCain Scholarship for a $5,000 scholarship award.

If you're unsure about your Pell Grant status, check your financial aid package in TUPortal or contact One Stop Student Services Center.
