Education Abroad Advising

We can’t wait to help you get started on your journey to a transformative learning experience! Temple students from any major can study in almost any country in the world, a perk that can make researching your options both exciting and intimidating. Don’t be put off! The Education Abroad office has lots of resources and staff to help you on your way so you can carry out your study abroad research without a hitch and find your best program.

Steps to Study Abroad

Sign up for a Foundations of Study Abroad session

Attend a Foundations of Study Abroad session to learn the who, what, when, where, and why of studying abroad. Learn about different program models, options that meet your academic and career goals, personal considerations, questions to ask your academic advisor, financing and scholarships, and more. (Non-Temple students, should start with their your home school study abroad office.)

Apply for your passport

Apply for your passport (or have it renewed). You’ll need to have a valid passport by the time you start a study abroad application. It can take anywhere from three weeks to a few months to receive a passport.

If you've never had a passport and apply during your first year at Temple, you can take advantage of the Passport Scholarship, which will reimburse you the cost of a U.S. passport.

Meet with your academic advisor

Talk with your academic advisor early (and often!) about your plan to study abroad. They can help identify the best time for you to study abroad and stay on track for graduation. Read tips for talking to your academic advisor

Study Abroad Peer Advisors and Ambassadors

Education Abroad has a team of knowledgeable Peer Advisors, many of whom have been where you are, and some have even studied on multiple programs. Peer Advisors can answer many of your questions about the process to study abroad. They offer a great resource in the initial planning phases and throughout the process as you prepare for your program.

In addition to our Peer Advisors, Study Abroad Ambassadors are returned student volunteers who are eager to talk about their time abroad, and would be happy to provide you with a student's perspective on their program, host country, and how to make the most of your experience.

Peer Advisor Chats

Visit our office in 200 Tuttleman Learning Center during walk-in hours on Monday-Friday, 3:30-4:30pm ET for a Peer Advisor Chat, or review our student profiles to contact a Peer Advisor or Ambassador directly.
