Announcing the Faculty Program Development Lab

August 26, 2025

Education Abroad & Overseas Campuses, in collaboration with Fox International and Klein EDGE, is launching the Faculty Program Development Lab as we seek to create new embedded undergraduate study abroad programs to serve Temple students.

The goal of the lab is to engage faculty in global learning and provide them with the professional development and support to create new courses they will propose for the inaugural TU Global Seminars. Global Seminars will combine spring semester courses with a short-term travel component and are specifically designed to integrate course content and program location to enrich student learning.

The Global Seminars will fill a key gap in Education Abroad’s existing portfolio, expanding access to high-impact global experiences to students and faculty less likely to travel abroad for a longer term due to finances, work or family commitments, rigid academic schedules, or inexperience with international travel. Global Seminars also present an opportunity to extend the geographic diversity of Temple’s study abroad opportunities, particularly to the Global South.

The lab will consist of five half-day workshops, held in October, November, and January, to educate participants on education abroad best practices, prepare them to successfully lead programs abroad, and provide support as they create program proposals. The workshop content is being developed in collaboration with key campus stakeholders including Klein EDGE; Fox International; Faculty Affairs; Center for Advancement of Teaching and Learning; Student Affairs; and Global Health, Safety, Security.
