Studies in Dance: Body Work and Stretching

  • Course Number: 2868
  • Subject: Dance
  • Semester(s) Offered: Summer
  • Credit Hours: 1
  • Description:

  • Bodywork and Stretching offers an introduction to techniques for injury prevention and self-care. These techniques draw from methods of fascial release (trigger point therapy, massage modalities, yin yoga, etc.), functional movement training, and kinesiological principles. Students will engage in a range of practices that contribute to more efficient, pain-free movement. While some experiential activities will target certain areas of the body, students will begin to understand the body as a system. Addressing unnecessary tension patterns and imbalances between strength and flexibility can lead to greater ease and fluidity within one’s daily physical practices.

  • Special Notes:

Special offering by visiting faculty in Summer 2024; combine with other dance offerings for Dance Intensive.

  • Pre-requisites:

Open to students without significant experience in dance or other body modalities.
