Hi, I’m Courtney Lassiter, a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker! I'll be studying abroad at Temple University Rome in fall of 2025, my junior year. I currently study at Davidson College as a James B. Duke Scholar double majoring in Studio Art and Film, Media, and Digital Studies. In my time as a Wildcat, I’ve photographed under-documented Ottoman monuments in Bosnia, completed a documentary film about punk movements in Berlin, and most recently finished an animation about my family's history in the former Yugoslavia and larger trends of contemporary migration. My current creative practice, spanning film, studio art, memoirism and more, seeks to begin critical conversations on the topics of place, (sub)cultures, depersonalization, and sexuality, all while working from a deeply global perspective influenced by my working travels. I'm honored to work as a Global Storyteller this semester, where I hope to delve deeply into Italian culture and explore a Rome beyond the surface. In the words of Anthony Bourdain, "travel changes you," and I hope to invite my readers on an immersive journey into Italian culture, where they, too, can be inspired to come out changed.
