Exchange participants are required to take a full-time course load (at least 12 Temple credits) while abroad and will earn transfer credit. At the University of Waikato, a typical full-time workload is 60 credit points per semester. This typically equates to 4 papers (courses), as most are worth 15 credit points.

Temple students will study at the University of Waikato's Hamilton campus. Hamilton is New Zealand's fourth largest city and the perfect launching point for exploring the North Island. A multicultural hub, Hamilton offers the resources of a university campus connected to nature. There are three lakes and a park on campus, in addition to Hamilton Lake and the Waikato River a ten-minute drive away. The campus is well-connected and close to New Zealand’s biggest city, Auckland, as well as beautiful beaches, native forests, and snowy mountains.
The campus has comprehensive facilities, including a library, student center, computer labs, coffee shops, and a health center. Students also have access to an on-campus gym, an Olympic-sized pool, various sport fields, and a recreational dance room. Explore the Hamilton campus map here.
University of Waikato follows a southern hemisphere academic calendar. The year begins in February and ends in November. It is possible to apply for spring (A Trimester) or fall (B Trimester), as well as the year-long program (calendar year).
Program participants are required to be present for the entire length of the program, including mandatory on-site orientation.
Students may choose to live in on-campus housing, university-arranged homestays, or find independent housing.
At Waikato, on-campus accommodation is guaranteed for exchange students.*
There are different housing options, including College Hall, Bryant Hall, Student Village (a residence hall where students live in pods of 6 residents), or apartment-style. Costs vary for the different housing options. All on-campus housing is located within a 10-minute walk from classrooms.

Students who want to experience the culture firsthand may choose to live in a homestay. Host families are located around Hamilton, but they are close to public transport. All families have been carefully vetted by the University of Waikato.

As an Exchange Program participant, you will have access to the support provided by your host institution. The University of Waikato offers a variety of student services, including their International Student Support Team, Student Learning resources, and Rainbow Alliance.
Students will pay a non-refundable program deposit of $400 within 2 weeks of nomination to the program. This non-refundable deposit is credited to your program fees as a prepayment.
Students pay Temple tuition and fees directly to Temple. Visit Temple’s Bursar for per-credit tuition rates. All students pay University Services Fee.

You are eligible to apply if you meet the following requirements.
You meet minimum cumulative GPA requirement, on a 4.0 scale from all colleges/universities attended. The requirement varies by program:
You remain in good academic standing from the time of application until the start of your term abroad; students on academic warning are not eligible to participate.
You will need a passport, valid well beyond the length of your program, by the application deadline.

You are in good disciplinary standing at the time of application and remain so through the start of your term abroad. Students who have been found responsible for a code of conduct violation and will not be in good disciplinary standing (including disciplinary probation) may submit a petition for review.
You are at least 18 years old at the time of application.
