The Culture and Identity Envoy Program gives students the opportunity to explore and reflect on identity, culture, and community while studying abroad. Envoys participate in curated experiences and share written reflections that offer meaningful insight into their host location and personal experience.
This program is offered in Temple Rome and is now expanding to include Temple Japan's Tokyo campus, creating new opportunities for students to engage with culture in a global city setting.
This selective role allows students to:
- Explore identity and culture in a global context
- Engage more deeply with their host community
- Build reflection and storytelling skills
- Contribute meaningful perspectives to future students
Students selected as Envoys will:
- Participate in cultural and community-based experiences
- Submit 4 in-depth reflections throughout the semester
Participation is open to all students studying at Temple Rome or Temple Japan, Tokyo during the academic year, including Temple and non-Temple students.
Envoys participate in four curated cultural experiences throughout the semester. After each experience, they engage in a guided group discussion to reflect on themes of identity, belonging, culture, and community, and then develop their own reflection projects independently. Envoys receive $200 per reflection, with the opportunity to earn up to $800 total.
