Temple Japan Summer in Kyoto
English Language Teaching in Kyoto
This unique study and teaching abroad program invites students to experience Japanese language and culture while supporting English and content-based instruction. Participants will explore Japanese educational culture, age-appropriate teaching practices, and strategies for integrating English with subjects such as social studies, music, art, science, health, and critical thinking. With guidance from their instructor, students will create engaging, student-centered mini-lessons for Temple University Japan’s Academic English Program. They will also assess the needs of a classroom and design a unit plan tailored to their students. Through these hands-on experiences, participants will strengthen their teaching skills, build meaningful intercultural connections, and make a valuable contribution to TUJ’s Academic English Program.
The program is open to students interested in developing their skills and knowledge in teaching English as an additional language. Participants will teach daily for two weeks (Monday through Friday). Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in working with children, specifically fifth and sixth graders, as well as high school students, and a strong desire to improve their teaching skills.
